What's the difference between categories and collections?

A category organizes your products for yourself (one per product). A collection is a group shoppers can browse together (many per product).

Categories are a single tree: each product fits in at most one category, and you can nest them (Clothing › Men › Tops). Shoppers see a Category filter on your store's shop page.

Collections are flexible groups you can create for any reason: by theme ("Summer Sale"), by material ("Pure Oils"), by season, or by target audience. You can manually pick products for a collection, or let smart collections rules do it automatically. Shoppers browse collections at /collections and can view any collection as its own page.

Use categories to structure your whole catalog. Use collections to highlight, theme or bundle products for campaigns.

How many categories can one product have?

A product can belong to one category only. Choose the most relevant category in the product editor, under Organisation › Category.

If a product fits multiple categories, put it in the most specific one. You can also add it to multiple collections (unlimited) to cover different angles.

Can I reorder products in a collection?

You can change the order you picked products in a manual collection: edit the collection and tick products again in a different order. The order is saved with your choices.

However, the storefront does not use that order. Shoppers see the collection sorted by their own choice: Featured (falls back to name A–Z), Best selling, Newest, Price low to high, Price high to low, or Alphabetical.

So reordering in the dashboard does not affect the order shoppers see. For consistent results, you need a website section (Catalog › Products section in the theme designer) that fixes its own sort to newest or featured.

Where is the "handle"?

The handle is the short name used in URLs. For a collection named "Pure Oils", the handle is pure-oils and the URL is /collections/pure-oils.

You see the handle in two places:

  1. In the form when creating. The form shows Handle: /collections/<live preview> as you type the title. The preview updates in real time, but once you click Create, the real handle is locked and does not change even if you rename later.
  2. In the collection or category list. Hover or open the edit form to see the handle in Handle: line.

Handles are lowercase, use hyphens for spaces, and skip special characters and accents. Bangla names give empty handles — use Banglish or English names instead.

Can I upload a video?

Videos are only accepted in Meta Ads. When you create a Meta Ad campaign, the creative wizard lets you pick videos from the media library or upload a new one. Accepted types: MP4, MOV (QuickTime), WebM. Maximum 500 MB.

Videos are not accepted for product photos, collection images, logo, or store sections.

If you need to show a video on your storefront, contact support — video embedding in store pages is not yet available.

What is the maximum file size?

  • Images (all): 20 MB per file.
  • Videos (Meta Ads only): 500 MB per file.

If your file is larger, use a compression or image-editing tool to shrink it. Online tools like TinyPNG or your computer's photo app can reduce image size.

The Media page's upload panel accepts up to 10 files in one batch. The media picker (in product editor, collection form, etc.) can upload up to 3 files at a time.

What is alt text and why does it matter?

Alt text is a short description of a photo (up to 200 characters). It is used by:

  • Search engines — helps index your images for Google Images and storefront search.
  • Screen readers — read alt text aloud so blind and partially-sighted shoppers can understand the image.
  • Broken images — if an image fails to load, alt text shows in its place so shoppers still know what it was.

Where to add it:

  • In the Media library picker: open the file's Details panel and type in Alt text.
  • On a product photo: product editor › photo › Add alt text / Edit alt text.

When you pick a photo from the library for a product, its library alt text is copied to the product. You can then edit it just for that product if needed.

Good alt text is short and describes what the photo shows. Instead of "image" or "photo", describe the content: "Red cashmere sweater on a model" or "Khus oil in a glass bottle".

How do I manage tags?

Tags are simple: you add them freely to products, and shoppers filter by them. There is no tag management interface — no rename, delete, or bulk editor for tags themselves.

Add tags: product editor › Organisation › Tags › type and press Enter or comma. Suggestions appear from existing tags.

Filter by tags: products list › Filters › Tags › tick the tags you want. Only products with all ticked tags show.

On your store: shoppers see a Tag filter (up to 24 tags) and can pick multiple tags (any of them, not all).

Smart collections can select products by tag rules (tag equals, contains, in, etc.).

To "delete" a tag, remove it from all products one by one or in bulk. Once no product uses it, the tag no longer appears in filters.
