Problems with catalog and media
Fixes for collections not appearing in your store, errors when deleting, handle collisions, upload failures, and smart collection issues.
Where to find it: Sidebar › Catalog or Media
Collection is not showing in your store
When you create a collection, it does not appear on your storefront right away.
What you see: The collection is in the Collections section of Catalog, but shoppers cannot see it at /collections/<handle> or in any collection menu or section on your store.
Why it happens: New collections are created unpublished. The storefront only shows published collections. There is no Publish button in the collection form.
How to fix it:
- Open Catalog › Collections and find your collection.
- Click Edit on the collection row.
- Look for a Published toggle or status in the form (if one is added in the future).
- If you see it, turn it on.
- If you don't, note this issue and contact support — the form may not have the control yet.
Still stuck? For now, ask support to publish your collection for you.
Cannot delete a category
When you try to delete a category, you get a "Cannot delete" message.
What you see: The dialog title is Cannot delete category with one of these messages:
- Cannot delete category with products. Please reassign products first.
- Cannot delete category with subcategories. Please delete or move subcategories first.
Why it happens: A category can only be deleted if it has no products and no child categories under it. This prevents broken links and lost data.
How to fix it:
- If products are in the category: move them to another category or delete them first. Edit each product's Category field in the product editor, or bulk edit the category column.
- If child categories exist: delete the child categories first (recursively), or move them to another parent with the Parent category field in the edit form.
- Then try deleting the category again.
Cannot delete a metafield
When you try to delete a metafield definition, you get a "Cannot delete metafield" message.
What you see: The dialog title is Cannot delete metafield with the message "Cannot delete metafield definition that has values. Delete the values first."
Why it happens: Any product that has a value stored in that metafield blocks deletion. This prevents losing data.
How to fix it:
- Open the product editor for each product that has a value in that metafield.
- Clear the value in the Custom fields card for that metafield (click the X).
- Save the product.
- Repeat for every product.
- Then try deleting the metafield definition again.
Note: There is no bulk tool to clear one metafield across all products — you must edit each product.
Handle already exists
When you create a category or collection, it fails with "Handle already exists" or "<name> already exists."
What you see: The error appears in a toast after you click Create category / Create collection.
Why it happens: The handle (the slug used in URLs like /categories/<handle>) is made from the name by removing special characters, spaces and converting to lowercase. When two names produce the same handle, Omnikyo refuses the second one.
Common causes:
- You already have a category or collection with the same name. Check the list before creating.
- You have two names that become the same handle when cleaned. For example, "Red Oil" and "Red-Oil" both become
red-oil. - A Bangla name gives an empty handle (see below) and collides with another empty handle.
How to fix it:
- Change the name to be unique. Use a different word or spelling.
- If you have Bangla names, consider adding a letter or number to distinguish them (for example, "তেল ১" and "তেল ২"), or use Banglish instead.
Bangla name gives empty handle
When you create a category or collection with a name in Bangla script, the handle becomes empty.
What you see: The form shows Handle: /categories/ or /collections/ with nothing after the slash.
Why it happens: Handles are made from the name by keeping only Latin letters (a–z), numbers (0–9) and hyphens. Bangla characters are removed, leaving nothing for a pure-Bangla name.
How to fix it:
- Rename the category or collection using Banglish (Bangla written in English letters, as typed on a phone). For example, "tel" or "eid-sale" instead of "তেল" or "ঈদ সেল".
- Or mix Bangla with letters: "তেল-oils" becomes
tel-oils. - Or use English names alongside Bangla.
The handle is what appears in URLs for shoppers, so using Banglish or English ensures URLs work reliably.
Image or video upload fails
When you try to upload a photo or video, it fails or does not appear in the list.
What you see: The upload panel shows a red dot next to the file, or the file appears and then vanishes, or you see a toast "Couldn't add <filename>" or "<N> files couldn't be added".
Why it happens: Upload can fail for several reasons:
- File type not supported. Photos: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG, AVIF. Videos: MP4, MOV, WebM. Check the file extension and open it in an app to confirm the type.
- File is too large. Photos: maximum 20 MB. Videos: maximum 500 MB. Use a compression tool to shrink a photo before uploading.
- Storage is not configured. The server cannot reach Cloudflare R2 storage. This is a setup issue — ask your administrator.
- Network error. Your connection dropped during upload. Wait a moment and try again.
- Paste failed. If you pasted a screenshot, your browser may not have permission. Copy the file and use the drop zone or file picker instead.
How to fix it:
- Check the file type and size (Properties or Get Info on your computer).
- If it is too large, use an image editor or online tool to shrink it.
- If the type is unsupported, convert the file (for example, PNG to JPG).
- Try uploading again.
If the error persists, contact support.
Broken image after you delete a file
After you delete a file from the Media library, images using that file show a broken icon.
What you see: A product photo, logo, collection image, or store section shows a broken or missing image (usually a question mark or X icon).
Why it happens: When you delete a file from the library, the file is removed from storage. Any product, collection, or page that was pointing to that file now points to nothing.
How to fix it:
- Open the product or page that shows the broken image.
- Replace the image with a new photo from the library or upload a new one.
- Save.
To prevent this: before deleting a file, check what is using it. The delete warning says "Anywhere it's used (products, your store) will show a broken image." If you need the image elsewhere, copy the link first.
Video shows Error in the Media library
A video file you uploaded appears as a broken "Error" tile in the Media library grid.
What you see: A tile with the Video label shows an error or image-loading failure.
Why it happens: Videos and photos are both stored in the library, but the Media page grid only knows how to display images. A video appears as an unsupported file type.
How to fix it:
- The video is stored correctly and can be used in places that accept videos (Meta Ads creative picker). The Media page grid just cannot display it.
- You can still use the video: open the Meta Ads creative wizard, and pick the video from the media picker. It will show with a play button and preview correctly there.
- Ignore the "Error" tile on the Media page; it is a display bug, not a storage problem.
Smart collection is empty after editing
You edited a smart collection (one with rules, not hand-picked products) and now it shows zero products.
What you see: The collection still exists in the Collections list with the Smart badge, but the Products column shows 0. On your storefront, the collection page shows nothing.
Why it happens: When you edit a smart collection, the form does not save its rules. The rules (the conditions that automatically select products) are cleared, leaving an empty collection.
How to fix it:
- Currently, there is no way to fix a smart collection in the dashboard. Smart collections can only be created and edited outside the Catalog section.
- Contact support if you need to restore a smart collection's rules.
- To organize products on your storefront, use manual collections instead: pick products one by one in the collection form.
