Cart, checkout and what happens after an order

Shoppers add products to a cart, review it, enter their delivery address and payment method, and place an order. The order appears in your Orders page within seconds.

Where to find it: Storefront (cart at /cart, checkout at /checkout, confirmation at /confirmation?orderId=…&token=…)

The cart

Shoppers add products and see them in a cart drawer (a slide-out panel) or on the full /cart page.

The cart holds: product snapshots (title, price, variant chosen), quantity for each line, a cart note (order instructions, if enabled in the theme), discount code (if a valid code was applied), and order total (subtotal minus discount).

Cart storage: The cart lives in the shopper's browser only (localStorage). There is no online account — if a shopper clears their browser data, the cart is gone. The cart does not sync across devices.

Updating quantities: Shoppers click + and − to change quantities, or select from a dropdown. Removing a product from the cart announces it out loud for accessibility.

Editing the cart: Shoppers can add an order note (e.g. "Leave at the gate"). You control the label and whether this appears in the theme. If you have discount codes enabled, shoppers can enter a code here — if valid, the discount shows as a line in the summary. A free-delivery bar may appear if a threshold is set (e.g. "Spend 500 more for free delivery").

Empty cart: If the cart is empty, the checkout page says "Your cart is empty. Add something before checking out." and a link returns to the shop.

Checkout

When a shopper clicks Proceed to checkout (or Checkout, depending on the theme), they land on /checkout and fill in:

Contact section: Mobile number (required; must be a valid Bangladeshi number starting 01, e.g. 01712345678) and Email (optional or required, depending on your theme setting).

Delivery address section: Full name (required; at least 2 characters), Address (required; street, house and area), and City or district (required; e.g. Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet).

Delivery zone section: One of two options — Inside Dhaka or Outside Dhaka. You set the fee for each zone. Shoppers must pick one (the page shows the fee and ETA for each). The ETA is fixed: 1–3 business days for Dhaka, 3–5 business days outside.

Payment section: Cash on delivery (always available; says "Pay the courier when your order arrives.") and bKash (only if you have connected bKash and it is verified in your settings).

Order note (optional): If you enabled this in the theme, shoppers can add special instructions (up to 500 characters).

Discount code: If the note above has not been used, shoppers can still enter a code here.

Submission: The button says "Place order" (or your custom label). While the order is being created, it says "Processing…". If bKash is chosen, the button changes to "Pay with bKash" instead.

Delivery fees

You set two fees:

ZoneSettingDefault
Inside Dhakadelivery_fee_dhakaTk 80
Outside Dhakadelivery_fee_outside_dhakaTk 130

Set a fee to 0 to offer free delivery in that zone. On checkout, shoppers see the exact fee before they pay.

Free delivery threshold

If the Free delivery flag is on in platform settings, you can set a minimum order total per zone:

ZoneSetting
Inside Dhakafree_shipping_threshold_dhaka
Outside Dhakafree_shipping_threshold_outside_dhaka

The threshold is checked after any shopper-entered discount code is applied. If the subtotal meets the threshold, delivery is free (overriding the zone fee).

Example: threshold is Tk 1,500. A shopper orders Tk 1,800 worth. Delivery in Dhaka is normally Tk 80, but it becomes free because Tk 1,800 ≥ Tk 1,500.

Offering bKash

To offer bKash at checkout:

  1. Go to Settings › Payments › bKash.
  2. Follow the setup guide to connect your bKash account.
  3. Test in sandbox mode first using these steps.
  4. Flip the switch to live when you are ready.

When bKash is verified in your settings, the bKash payment option appears automatically on checkout. Shoppers tap it and are redirected to the bKash-hosted payment page. When they complete or cancel the payment, they are returned to a confirmation page.

What happens when a shopper places an order

Immediately after: The order is created in your Orders page with status New (merchant-facing). The shopper is sent to a confirmation page showing the order number, items, and total. The cart is cleared.

For COD orders: The order is ready to dispatch as soon as you see it.

For bKash orders: The order is created when the shopper clicks Pay with bKash. If the shopper abandons the bKash payment page, the order remains in your dashboard with status New but no payment record — the payment attempt is logged separately. If the shopper completes or cancels payment at bKash, the confirmation page shows the result (successful, failed, or cancelled).

The confirmation page

When an order is placed, shoppers see a confirmation at confirmation?orderId=<number>&token=<uuid>. This page shows the order number (e.g. #1247), items ordered and quantities, total amount, delivery address and ETA, and payment method.

The confirmation page requires both the order number and a secret token — a shopper cannot guess another customer's order. If the link is lost, there is no automatic recovery; the shopper must contact you.

On your Orders page

When a shopper's order arrives in your Orders page, it shows:

  • Status: New (all new orders start here, whether COD or bKash).
  • Source: Website (shows the order came from the storefront, not a manual entry or another channel).
  • Payment method: COD or Bkash.
  • Customer: Phone number and name entered at checkout (no account linked).
  • Items: Each product, variant chosen, and quantity.
  • Totals: Subtotal, discount (if a code was used), delivery fee, and grand total.
  • Discount code: Shown if one was applied.
  • Attribution: UTM parameters, campaign info (if the shopper arrived via a link with these parameters).

You can dispatch, return, or cancel the order from here — all the normal workflows apply.

Errors and edge cases

Phone number invalid: If a shopper enters a phone number that does not start with 01 or is not 11 digits, they see "Enter a valid mobile number, e.g. 01712345678."

Address too short: If the address field is less than 10 characters, the error is "Enter the full delivery address."

Stock ran out: If an item sold out between when the shopper added it and checkout, they see "Sorry — one or more items in your cart just went out of stock. Please review your cart and try again." and must go back and remove the unavailable item.

Too many orders at once: If many orders are placed from one IP in a short time, the system rate-limits: "Too many order attempts. Please wait a moment and try again." (limit is 10 per minute per store).

bKash not enabled: If you have not set up bKash or your credentials are broken, the bKash option silently does not appear — shoppers see only COD.
