Set the default location
Choose which location serves as the starting point for orders and the Inventory page. Every business has exactly one default, and it is used when no other location is chosen.

Where to find it: Sidebar › Settings › Locations › select the location you want as default › Set as default button. Who can do it: Anyone with the Locations permission in Settings.
Set a location as default
- Go to Settings and open Locations.
- Find the location you want to be the default.
- Click Set as default.
- A toast message appears: "Default location updated. '[Location name]' is now the default."
The location becomes the default immediately. The Default badge moves to it in the list.
What the default location does
On orders: When staff create an order without choosing a specific location (no Fulfil from selection), the order draws stock from the default location first. If the default cannot serve the order's channel, the system looks for another location that can.
On the Inventory page: The page opens to the default location's stock. Staff can switch to another location using the Filters control, but when they reload the page, it goes back to the default.
On the product editor: When staff set stock with the On hand by location section, and then save, a new order later created from that product will use the default location's inventory (not the location they happened to be viewing).
When to set the default
- If you have two warehouses and one is the main source of stock, make it the default so orders automatically use it.
- If you add a new location later and want orders to prefer it, set it as default.
- The first location created in every business, Main location, starts as the default; you can change it anytime.
Can I delete the default location?
No. If you want to delete a location, set another location as default first.
Can the default location be deactivated?
The system allows it, but it is unusual. An inactive default still serves as the final fallback for orders that cannot be routed elsewhere. If you plan to deactivate your default, set another location as default first.
Questions people ask
What if my default location runs out of stock?
Orders will still use it if no Fulfil from is chosen. Use the Low Stock Warning to catch short stock before dispatch, or set a higher Fulfil from priority on another location so it is checked sooner.
Can I change the default often?
Yes. You can change it as many times as you need. Only one location is the default at any moment.
What happens if all locations are set to inactive?
The default location remains the fallback even if inactive. It is good practice to keep at least the default location active.
